50 Year Anniversary of the Australis OSCAR 5

In 1966-67, a team of mostly undergraduate engineering, science and law students from the University of Melbourne conceived and built the Australis-OSCAR 5 amateur radio satellite - the first satellite to be made in Australia, which was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on 23 January 1970.

Melbourne School of Engineering would like to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch and acknowledge the impact of the project.

Alumni, friends and staff are invited to attend a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the launch.

We are honored that Dr Amanda Caples (Lead Scientist, Victoria) and Mr Anthony Murfett (Deputy Head, Australian Space Agency) have agreed to speak at the event.

This event will:
- acknowledge the work of the former students and examine the broader impact of the project
- explore the current state of collaboration, and innovation, between university, industry and the government sector
- examine the future of the space industry, and the engineering and IT sector.

If you would like to attend please register at http://alumni.online.unimelb.edu.au/oscar5

We hope to see you at this very special event.
