Active Hubs

Located on Levels 1 – 6,  Active Hubs offer a range of spaces to support both formal and informal collaboration. Connected by internal stairs and easily accessible from the workspace, Active Hubs provide a central meeting point for FEIT staff.

Kitchen & Dining

Each Active Hub is focused around kitchen facilities that provide a quick option for dining and tea breaks. Kitchens have been designed with functionality in mind with dedicated preparation space and clear access to amenities including fridges for storing staff lunches, shelving for food storage, coffee machines, sandwich presses, toasters, microwaves, dishwashers and waste bins.

The dining area caters for up to 36 people, arranged with a combination of large communal dining tables and smaller, flexible café-style seating. Kitchens are stocked with essentials such as milk, tea, coffee, sugar, cutlery, crockery, glasses and mugs.

Open Project Spaces – Adjacent to Kitchens

Open Project Spaces are designed for a variety of collaborative activities like team meetings, working lunches and presentations. Hosting up to 12 people, formats vary from space to space and include clever modular furniture, powered work benches, lounges and sliding whiteboard panels.

A resident PC connected to a flat panel display screen is provided for presentations. Personal laptops and other devices can also be connected to the display via cable or the University’s wireless network. All Open Project Spaces are enabled with a touch control panel, a floor box with power and web conferencing capabilities including camera, microphone and speaker. Open Project Spaces can be booked in advanced through Outlook or on the display screen at the door. A two-hour time limit is recommended.

Open Project Space – Levels 2 and 5

There are also larger Open Project Spaces located in the void between some floors. Collaborative activities such as informal team meetings, brainstorming sessions, project reviews and workshops can be held in these two locations accommodating up to 22 people each.

On Level 2, modular bench and lounge seating, whiteboards and mobile tables can be reconfigured to activate this space for collaborative group work.

On Level 5, the technology-enabled space can be used for scheduled or spontaneous collaborative activities. Fixed tiered seating enhances viewing of presentations, seminars, speakers and panel discussions.

Lounges

A variety of comfortable lounges are positioned throughout the Active Hub.

Lounges are designed for informal one-on-one discussions or idea sharing over tea and coffee.

Reclining Focus Lounges provide an alternative for work or relaxation, helping you to unwind or focus on important tasks.

Meeting Rooms

Sometimes, in order to get work done, there needs to be formal separation to aid concentration or confidentiality. Alongside the more open worksettings, the Active Hub has a suite of enclosed meeting rooms for a more traditional collaborative environment. Research-led design considerations have been incorporated to provide the acoustic comfort and separation between the open and closed spaces in the Active Hub.

As with all meeting rooms in Melbourne Connect, the rooms in the Active Hub are bookable through Outlook or from a display panel located outside each space. Meeting rooms are equipped with AV and technology systems including large display screens and videoconferencing systems.
