Naming of the laneways
UoM has worked with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and Wurundjeri Elders to allocate indigenous names.
The University of Melbourne has worked closely with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation and Wurundjeri Elders to allocate indigenous names to Melbourne Connect public spaces. These names will be included in prominent signage, alongside their English translation.
The laneways enter from the four corners of the Melbourne connect site, leading to the central Oculus. Their names are:
Tongerambi kalk Way (birthing tree) - Swanson Street
Yagila-djerring Walk (learning/searching together) - Corner of Swanston and Grattan
Toom-djerring Walk (speaking together) - Corner of Grattan and Cardigan
Ngang-gak djerring Walk (listening together) - Cardigan Street
The Oculus itself is named Womin-djerring, meaning come together.
